This is a nightmare of marionettes This is a lighthearted stroll Feed me a slice of your hot, stinging death Feed me that sweet holy ghost Dead, cold Prefrontal lobes Reap, sow Loss of control Straight to your brain Right through the nose Straight to your brain Right through the nose You can’t Build me a prison with full kitchenette Build me a house to foreclose Give me a taste of that bitter regret Give me that sweet holy ghost Dead, cold Prefrontal lobes Reap, sow Loss of control Straight to your brain Right through the nose Straight to your brain Right through the nose You can’t stop

about

“Lobotomizer” is about the horror of losing control of your own life to societal pressures. It’s so easy to fall into making so many life decisions because it seems like “what you’re supposed to do.” Life can become extremely prescribed if you don’t take the time to question what you really want out of it. It’s like having your brain controlled by someone else; those little voices in your head that say “you really should be doing this or that by whatever age.” You can easily wake up one day and realize the life you’re living is someone else’s version of what is ideal. It happens a lot. It’s mundane but still scary. I think the older we get, the more we feel these types of pressures.

A lot of times when we start writing, I’m not thinking about these types of things, but they come out through the writing process. The guitar tone and riff for this song is just so piercing and the rhythm section just emphasizes that. I use an electro-harmonix pitchfork to get the tone. A friend once told me that the way I use that pedal sounds like “hot needles in your brain.” I really liked that. When we were jamming on the chorus riff, I started yelling “straight to your brain, right through the nose,” and it stuck.

This song is also the first song we’ve released with our new drummer, Anthony. He’s really brought so much to the band, especially in terms of energy. There is certainly overlap with what we were doing before, but it’s so much more energetic and in your face now. We think this song really highlights that shift.

The video was super fun to make. Everyone in the band is a huge fan of horror movies, so we absolutely love the way it came out. We didn’t have a lot of time, but the ideas came together really fast and we got all the shooting done in just one day at our practice space. We worked with Haunted Basement Productions who were just amazing and really helped us develop our ideas and bring them to life so fast and so well.
